Deliveroo’s bicycle couriers should be paid the same and treated in the same way as truck drivers, parcel deliverers and couriers. This was decided by the Amsterdam Court of Appeal on Tuesday.
According to the court, Deliveroo falls under the collective labor agreement (CLA) for professional goods transport. Employees are therefore entitled to a fixed hourly wage, allowances and holiday pay.
The case was brought by the trade union FNV, who responds happily. “The ruling applies retroactively to all deliverers who work and have worked for Deliveroo,” said trade union director Willem Dijkhuizen. “Deliverers can report to the FNV to jointly claim an employment contract that includes a collective labor agreement wage.”
